Turning on the TV was unique for me this year, even though I was among 123.7 million others to watch the Super Bowl. It became the most-viewed television broadcast in American history. It was more personal this year because I know one of the coaches. Over the last few weeks of the season, I would text and congratulate Coach Woods for each victory. A couple of days before kickoff he told me, “I hope we get this one.”

As missionaries our mission is simple but bold: we want EVERY person to experience the love of Jesus. Our vision is to see a Christ-follower on every team, in every sport, in every nation. For Susie and me, our passion lies with college students. Dr. Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, once said, “Reach the campus today, reach the world tomorrow.” That conviction has shaped our entire adult lives.

For more than 40 years, we’ve pursued that calling—serving at the University of Arizona for 12 years, in Durban, South Africa, for 8 years, and in Cincinnati at Xavier and the University of Cincinnati for 20 years. Most recently, I’ve stepped into a national role, helping mobilize and sending already over 80 college graduates into the mission field.

Along the way, we’ve seen God transform lives in incredible ways. While leading a coaches’ Bible study at Xavier, I met Dustin. He carried what he learned there into the NFL, where he now serves as the strength coach for the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles. The picture here captures a special moment—Dustin, standing on the field with his father and family after the Eagles’ victory.

Coach Woods is yet another wonderful life change story. Jesus transformed his life and his time on campus shaped his faith, preparing him for what was ahead. Now, part of his role is as the personal trainer for Jalen Hurts and sees his work as more than just training athletes—he’s bringing the Gospel into the heart of the team.

We thank God for open doors like these, knowing that right now, on college campuses across the country, the next generation of leaders is being mentored and strengthened in their faith. One day, they will step into their calling—whether in sports, business, ministry, or beyond—carrying the light of Christ with them.
