“This past year was my freshman year, and it was really hard and isolating for me because I couldn’t find any encouragement for my faith on campus.”

This fall I met Ricky after we did a team meeting with the men’s and women’s golf teams. Ricky is from Southern California and came to Southern Oregon University on a golf scholarship. He is their #1 player and a real influencer on the team. Everyone likes Ricky. I’m pictured here with him and some of his teammates that he brought to a recent Athletes in Action weekly meeting.

Jesus has transformed his life, but he felt like he was living on an island and his faith was standing still. He had his family to encourage him, but they were 500 miles away. He needed something on campus. Since launching AIA at SOU, he has now found a community on campus of fellow student athletes who are interested in pursuing their relationship with Jesus. I’m so happy for Ricky, but I’m even more

excited to see how the Lord will use him to help share the love and forgiveness of Jesus with his teammates and throughout the athletic department. Please pray for Ricky to stay strong in his faith, as his campus doesn’t hold those same values.

He is another reason why we do what we do. By the grace of God we can take the Gospel where it is not so that the love of Jesus can continue to transform the lives of today’s college students.

Susie and I are blessed to witness the work of God in the lives of these students.
