Chen Ching Tzu, or as her teammates call her, CCT, is a friend of mine on the University of Oregon golf team. Negative thoughts began to ensnare CCT and they were hurting her and affecting her golf game. She walked of the 18th green at NCAA Nationals and asked Coach Derek Radley for help. We don’t know what prompted her to ask this question, but she asked her coach, “What does it mean to be a Christian?”
Derek told me that he was unsure what to say in response, but God led him in what to do. He began writing out Bible verses on 3X5 cards for her to pull out of her golf bag and focus on during her rounds. The Lord was at work in CCT’s and Derek’s lives. God’s Word was making an impact and she wanted more.
Derek told me this story at a college tournament in Arizona, and then he told me again when I got to attended CCT’s baptism last month, “CCT’s journey to faith in Christ has profoundly affected me too. One morning while sitting in the team van, as I was writing out a verse for CCT, the Lord met me in a very special way and my life was changed.”
Galations 2:20 was the verse Derek wrote on the card:
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.”
CCT was beaming at her baptism. She shared with me that she grew up in a Buddhist family in Taiwan. But now, after her sharing her own journey of coming to Christ, her mom has come to Christ too.
