Giovana Maymon is the new coach for the Arizona Women’s Golf team. Recently she met with Mark and me and gave us a tour of the new Wildcat golf facility at Tucson Country Club. She was extremely welcoming of me as a former player. It was really fun to have the new coach see that I was already friends with most of the girls on the team. She ended our time together giving me her number and telling me to let her know if I need anything.

I look forward to what the Lord will do through Giovana in the future.

The previous Wildcat coach, Laura, is now the head coach for the #5 Texas Longhorns. The #6 Oregon coach, Derek, I know because he used to be the assistant coach at Arizona. The Lord has weaved together a network of coaches from my playing days.

I am officiating the San Diego State Classic women’s golf tournament next week. This is a highlight as I will be able to talk to some Division I coaches and players from the west coast including the top team at the event, Stanford, who is ranked #1 in the country. I have been researching the players who will be at the tournament to see who I should be on the lookout for. One girl on a team identifies herself as a Christian. Her name is “Haven Ward.” (Say her name out loud.) I look forward to meeting her and the others, as well as trying to form more opportunities to share to love of Jesus with those who do not know Him.

You might have heard a scream around 10:30 in the morning of January 21st. It was me, in Tucson, as Mark was driving us to our next appointment. I read an email from the USGA that I was asked to attend their Referee’s Workshop. This is their most sought after workshop, and it takes a high test score to get the invitation. The workshop is designed to work on advanced refereeing techniques. We will be on the course making rulings, with the PGA and USGA instructing us, video-taping us, and giving us feed back.

I am told that this is the workshop to attend if you want to meet people at the highest level within golf officiating. My hope and prayer is for the Lord to grant favor so I can get to know people who will invite me to even higher levels of tournaments around the country.
