The National Championship for Womens NCAA Division I Golf took place last week in Southern California and the final four teams we all from the West Coast: The University of Oregon, UCLA, USC, and Stanford. It is no doubt that at this time, even though the PAC12 has breathed its final breath of existence, its schools dominate when it comes to women’s golf.
The influence of these players are widespread, and I want to focus in on one player in particular from the University of Oregon, CCT. She is the young woman who gave her life to Christ through the influence of Derek Radley, the head coach for the Womens Golf Team at Oregon. I drove up to see her get baptized at church two years ago. This was her senior year and she is now influencing her teammates. The #1 player from Oregon turned pro mid-season, so they were down a top player. Another player was having personal struggles, and had to stop playing. That left a team of 5 which included three freshmen. CCT became their leader. Early in the season they were on a road trip which included a Sunday practice round. CCT asked the coach if they could find a church to attend since they were free. The coach found a church and drove the team van to the church with CCT. But it wasn’t just CCT and the coach, a third person wanted to come too. The young freshman, Kiara Romero, joined them. Kiara is a break out star who is, as it turns out, the 4th ranked player in the country. Look for her in the Arnold Palmer Cup on the Golf Channel July 5-7.
Derek Radley introducing CCT to Christ. CCT growing and influencing Kiara for Christ. This is spiritual multiplication. This is the Great Commission. May more young golfers come to know Jesus and make His name known.
