How Do You Bring Rest to Your Soul?

Mark speaking to the staff at AIA’s Ultimate Training Camp

Jesus gives us a wonderful promise in Matthew 11:28-30 when he says: “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

I’ve been thinking a lot about these things lately and last month spoke on these topics to our staff and student leaders at AIA’s Ultimate Training Camp. During that time, we looked at three lessons I learned during my Sabbatical time back in 2017. I still find these three things vital for my own spiritual growth and want to share them with you.

  1. Walk with Jesus as my #1 priority
  2. Create regular margins of rest in my schedule to care for my soul, which includes trying to practice a weekly Sabbath rest.
  3. God is sovereign and He rules and reigns over all things — this can help me with boundaries, so I don’t take on more responsibility and worry than He intends.
