Some Kids are Like a Boat Without a Rudder

Scott talks about relocating to the University of Cincinnati

I didn’t think I’d ever leave Xavier. I loved it there. It was rewarding to see the students develop into men. When the new role became available for me at UC I realized I was ready for a new, bigger challenge. I have really grown as a person and a coach. This was just what I needed at this point in my life

Scott talks with Mark about their relationship

As our relationship has grown over the last 14 years you have been a very positive influence on me in terms of helping me develop as a person. I’m grateful for the good balance you bring to our conversations. To be honest with you, Mark, just being able to talk and pray together helped me through some trying times.  Again, it’s the same thing here, even though you have those experiences, you are still going to face adversity, and it is always good to have someone on your side with whom you can talk to about God and Jesus and helping you with life lessons.  The lessons haven’t changed from back in Biblical times, these are the same lessons, they are just different circumstances.

Scott talks about how many students are like a boat without a rudder

I love your vision, Mark, of giving every college athlete in the Cincinnati Metro area a chance to respond to the love of Christ, and I’d like to help you here at UC. It’s giving kids direction. It points them on the right trajectory in life. The average 18-20 year old is trying to get an education, trying to figure out who they are and what direction they want to go.  Some kids are like a boat without a rudder. They have no idea. And I think what you are doing gives kids a positive direction and some positive reinforcements because there is a lot of negativity right now in the world and I think kids need that hope that positive influence. And I think that is what AIA provides. I really do. It is to help them stay grounded. To give them an anchor.
